Do you want to add some entertainment to your speed or fitness training? Take your training outdoors from time to time. Hit the hills, in a shaded landscape surrounded by natural obstacles that force you to cut and dodge on the way up. Trail hills are also beneficial for challenging one's level of mental awareness, focus, and ability to use peripherals while trying to avoid pits, roots, rocks, sand or mug as you cruise your way to the hill top.
Hill training is a proven way to build speed, strength and endurance. According to researchers at the University of Georgia, running on an incline has been proven to activate nine percent more muscles each stride compared to running at the same relative intensity on level ground. Incline runs force your muscles to work harder with each step; as you grow stronger, your stride becomes more efficient and your speed improves.
So, if you don't have access to gym equipment or just want to switch up the scenery, find some inspiration, motivation, and new challenges by hitting some hills.
